Day-by-Day / October 4, 1804

October 4, 1804

Turn around

The day begins by dropping back three miles to the start of a better river channel. Various Sioux along the banks are avoided, and the day’s camp is across from an abandoned Arikara village near present Forest City, South Dakota. Lewis adds fire-on-the-mountain to his plant collection.
